Access to the Building
This building has an electronic security access facility. Normal opening and closing hours are Monday to Friday 7:30 am to 5:30 pm.  Access to the building outside of these hours can only be effected by authorised personnel whose campus cards have been given the appropriate permission.

For health and safety reasons, students must make application via their supervisors for any out of hours access.

Mail and Hard Copy Messages
These will be placed in the appropriate student mail box in the main office.

Email
Please make sure you read your emails daily. This is the main source of communicating information of all sorts, both mundane and important, within the School.

Photocopying
Any photocopying you need can be done on either the machine in the main office or the one on the 2nd floor. It is preferred that the office staff be requested in advance of need to carry out copying for you if this is possible. Please remember the copiers are under heavy demand during semester, so give yourself plenty of time. They also break down occasionally and are thereby unavailable!

Another point to remember is that teaching copying always has first preference.
The copiers need pin numbers to activate them. These are available from the office.
A demonstration on the operation of the machines will be provided on request. Just ask.

Fax Machine
This is located in the main office and the number is (61 8) 6488 1051. Any incoming faxes for you will be placed in the appropriate student mail box. Instruction on the use of the fax machine will also be provided on request. Outgoing faxes relative to your research, both national and international, must be recorded in the fax book and charged back to your supervisor. Local call costs are paid by the School.

Stationery
In the main, you are required to provide your own stationery, however special items can be ordered through the School, providing you have your supervisor's authority to make the purchase. See Vicki or Lesley.

Photocopy cards
As you will be aware, your campus card is also your library photocopy card. Please see Lesley who will arrange for some credit to be placed on your student card for use in library photocopiers.

Morning Tea, Afternoon Tea and Lunch
Please take your morning and afternoon breaks and lunch with the rest of the School in the tea room or on the balcony. We look forward to you joining us. The fridge is available for food storage such as lunches.  Please don't store food and then forget about it!

Everyone provides their own tea/coffee and pays a small amount for the milk.  Honours students are exempt from this levy, however we ask that you only use the milk for beverages and not breakfast!

The tea room is locked at the end of each day. There is a key to the balcony kitchen kept in the kitchen near the office to allow out of hours access.

It is traditional in the School that everyone puts on a morning tea to celebrate birthdays and other important events such as promotions, higher degree successes and the like, either individually or with someone else.  Students are included in this tradition!

Social Events
From time to time the School has a social event, either here or at a staff member's house. You are automatically included in any invitations circulated and if you have a partner, he/she is also welcome.

Computers
There are a few shared computers in the Honours and PhD rooms that are available to students. Any queries regarding the operation of the equipment, please see Steve Bamforth.

For information regarding computers for graduate students, please consult your supervisor.

There is also a laptop computer available for use in seminars & presentations. This must be booked in advance, signed for and returned immediately following use with all the cables and cords intact.

A booking facility is available on the email folder list under "Public Folders" for room and equipment reservations. Please use this.

Data Projectors
There are data projectors mounted on the ceiling of the tea/seminar room, conference room and G.39 for the occasions when you make presentations in this venue.

There is also a portable projector available for use in venues other than the seminar area.

Please remember all equipment and venues must be booked via the Public Folders on Microsoft Outlook.

Also please remember that teaching requirements take precedence over all other bookings.

Coloured Images/Graphics/Pictures
Your supervisor is responsible for meeting the cost of any of the above and has a limited amount of funding to expend on each student, so please make sure you seek approval in advance for any work of this nature.

Consult Guy Ben-Ary in CellCentral regarding your needs.
