Memorial ServiceThe School of Anatomy & Human Biology holds a memorial service in Winthrop Hall every three years to honour the donors to its Body Bequest Program whose remains have been cremated during the three years prior to the service. The Memorial Services were inaugurated in 1999. The families of all donors are welcome to attend these services. |
Recent Memorial ServiceThe most recent memorial service was held on Friday The introduction was given by Professor Linc Schmitt the Head of the School of Anatomy & Human Biology. Vice Chancellor Professor Alan Robson welcomed attendees to the service and University before keynote speaker Emeritus Professor David Allbrook presented his address. The service concluded with students Stephanie Samuelraj, Sherman Kwan, Akram Azimi, Jeremy Strahan, Amanda Tan and Tahmina Anwarithe reading the names of donors cremated in the years 2005 to 2007 and the distribution of flowers to relatives at the service.
Afternoon tea was served at the Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery after the service. The next memorial service is scheduled for 2011. |
We believe that a dedication of thanksgiving expressed in the presence of relatives, special guests and students is the most appropriate way to acknowledge those who have bequeathed their mortal remains to the University. Importantly, given the sensitivities of donors' relatives and the diverse cultural and religious backgrounds of our many students, we believe a strictly religious ceremony would not be appropriate. As such, this ceremony is one in which all present can participate with their own private thoughts.
