Discipline Statement
Anatomy & Human Biology is a unifying scientific discipline characterized by the integrative and in-depth study of the structure, function and evolution of humans and their biosocial interactions. It is an holistic science, concerned with both the proximate and ultimate determinants of the human condition, which recognizes the ubiquity of emergent properties. It encompasses the biology of human populations and individuals; systems, organs and tissues; and cells and molecules. The School's activities have direct application to our health and well-being, and to our understanding of broader, multifactorial problems facing humankind. Its ultimate purpose is to enrich the world in which we live. |
